Serving up life lessons from the court to the officeJULY 29, 2021
You might not think that the skills and life lessons learned in volleyball would translate from the court to an office setting. But for AlphaGroup Account Manager Janel Gluch, her athletic background helped pave the way for her success both on and off the court. Having spent three years as an assistant coach and three years as the first female head coach of the Delaware Valley University’s volleyball team—in addition to 9 years coaching club volleyball—Janel gained invaluable experience and learned numerous skills that actually carry over into the world of medical communications.
“From volleyball, I’ve learned problem resolution, how to work with different personalities, organizational skills, and how to teach someone by tailoring to their learning style,” said Janel, who joined the AlphaGroup team in August 2019 as Account Coordinator and was promoted to Account Manager in April 2021.
As an Account Manager, Janel is responsible for ensuring the client’s needs are met by working with internal teams to achieve those goals. The first in her family to attend college, Del Val University isn’t just where Janel honed her coaching skills, it’s also where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Small Animal Science.
“I wanted to join TIDE to help educate people and to try and make a difference to our company and our community,” she said.
When she’s not on the job, Janel enjoys listening to Elvis Presley and reading Kurt Vonnegut. In addition, many of her hobbies focus on self-improvement. Janel enjoys staying active with hikes and kayak excursions near her home near Long Beach Island, NJ. And she hasn’t left behind volleyball; Janel is active in adult volleyball leagues.
